Here\u2019s how to prompt like a pro. Smarter prompts lead to smarter responses<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/a><strong>.<\/strong>\u201d Explains mulitple techniques for improving your AI prompts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oneusefulthing.org\/p\/using-ai-right-now-a-quick-guide\"><span style=\"color:blue\"><u>Using AI right now: A Quick Guide<\/u><\/span><\/a>.<\/strong>&#8221; Considers which AI model is best for your purposes focusing on Claude, ChatGPT, OR Gemini. Author prefers the non-free ChatGPT o3, Claude 4 Opus, or Gemini 2.5 Pro for serious work. Pick a system and <strong><em>resign yourself to paying the $20\/month<\/em><\/strong> (the free versions are demos, not tools).&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>(1)<\/strong> <strong>Give the AI context to work with<\/strong>. Be detailed in your initial prompts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(2)<\/strong> <strong>Be really clear about what you want.&nbsp;<\/strong>Be detailed about what you want in initial prompt and provide plenty of details. Ask the AI to ask you questions to help you clarify what you want.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(3)<\/strong> <strong>Give it step-by-step directions<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=5285532\"> an approach, called Chain-of-Thought prompting<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(4)<\/strong> <strong>Ask for a lot of things.<\/strong>&nbsp;Ask for 50 ideas instead of 10, or thirty options to improve a sentence. Then push the AI to expand on the things you like.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(5)<\/strong> <strong>Use branching to explore alternatives.<\/strong>&nbsp;Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini all let you edit prompts after you have gotten an answer. This creates a new \u201cbranch\u201d of the conversation. You can move between branches by using the arrows that appear after you have edited an answer. It is a good way to learn how your prompts impact the conversation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(6)<\/strong> <strong>Use<\/strong> <strong>Two Way Conversation:&nbsp;<\/strong>Engage the AI in a back-and-forth interaction. Don\u2019t just ask for a response, push the AI and question it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>(7)<\/strong> <strong>Use AI as your critical thinking partners<\/strong>.
